Lori Billinghurst, CHOP
Dr. Rose Viscardi is Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD (UMB). She graduated from the U. Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, completed her residency in Pediatrics at the U of R, and fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the U. Michigan. Her research expertise is in the role of inflammation in neonatal BPD pathogenesis and necrotizing enterocolitis. She has published over 90 articles and book chapters. Her main research focus is the role of the bacteria Ureaplasma spp. in the pathogenesis of BPD. She is currently the investigator-sponsor of an IND to determine the efficacy of azithromycin to prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in Ureaplasma-infected preterms. Her current funding includes 2 R01s and a U24.She was the program director for the UMB Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship from 2002-2009. During this period, she developed a scholarly core curriculum for all pediatric fellows. She developed successful workshops for junior faculty and trainees on scientific writing (manuscripts, grants, poster and platform presentations) and promotion readiness. She has a greater than 30 year track record of mentoring high school, college, and medical students, as well as pediatric residents, neonatology fellows and junior faculty. In recognition of her commitment to mentoring, she was appointed in 2015 Director of the Joint Departmental Junior Faculty Academic Career Development and Mentoring Program for the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics.
